Waste Recycling Group signs with AWS Eco Plastics

AWS Eco Plastics just snagged a new contract from Waste Recycling Group (WRG) to provide collection services for the group’s Carnaby and Luton sites. The recycling firm will also be responsible for processing the collected materials, mostly baled plastic bottles.

The arrangement aligns with an existing agreement between the two firms. Currently AWS Eco Plastics already collects for WRG at the Wrexham site. These contracts are just two of several that the recycling firm has accrued in the last few months.

AWS’s recycling plant, specially designed to handle mixed bottle recycling, will process the collected recyclables. The plant is located in Lincolnshire, and all materials collected will be sorted according to colour and polymer.

Duncan Oakes, commercial director for AWS, said that the contract signifies an important step towards achieving the latest set of recycling targets announced by DEFRA. The UK is amping up recycling efforts on all fronts, in order to be on track to meet the recycling levels of other European countries.

Mr Oakes added that once the facillity, which was recently struck by a fire, was rebuilt, it can operate at full potential processing 140,000 tonnes per year. He added that the company would look to secure more long-term contracts as repairs on the facility reach completion.
