A new study has warned against the looming health risks that could be brought about by continued global climate change. According to the report issued by government agencies in Washington on Wednesday, there are specific health areas where effects of climate change need to be studied further.
Jane Lubchenco, head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said that it is vital to understand the health effects of climate change so that they can be mitigated and adapted to. She added that this latest report is a new roadmap that will pioneer the way.
The report, published by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, a consortium of several federal bodies, concludes that climate changes may force people to adapt to a changing environment in ways that will effect both short-term and long-term health.
Some of the more prominent studies already in place are looking at the effects of climate change on drinking water, beaches, and seafood. The effects of climate change on sewers and run-off as also been looked into. However, these are not the only areas of human health that will be affected, according to the report.
Some of the areas that the report has stressed as needing more research are: Cancer, Asthma, heart disease, waterborne diseases, stress-related disorders, and more. According to the report climate change will continue to impact health in a variety of forms.
