AT&T announced a new eco-friendly initiative in celebration of Earth Day’s 40th anniversary. Initiatives will include a 40 per cent discount on AT&T’s ZERO charger to any customer that recycles an old mobile device at an AT&T retailer. The new eco-friendly charger will be available in May, and participants can claim their charger once it hits stores next month.
Other programmes include, sponsoring Earth Week for the Earth Day Network, as well as hosting a solar-powered, interactive exhibit at the National Mall in Washington DC until 25 April. This week will also see the launch of AT&T’s ‘One Million Eco Challenge’. The year-long programme seeks to educate one million youngsters on eco-friendly practices.
Additionally, the mobile phone provider will also provide eco tips to any customers who text ECO to 42345 during Earth Week. Updates for Earth Week events can also be received by texting the same number. AT&T will also be encouraging customers to recycle their old mobile handsets by visiting anyone of the 2,000 retail locations or going to the provider’s website.
The AT&T Pioneers will also be making drives through communities to do kerbside collections. AT&T Pioneers go into communities to collect old mobile phones for recycling. Additionally, the first one million AT&T customers that switch to paperless statements for their billing services will have a tree planted in their honour.
