Samsung Mobile will partner with Sprint to break the current Guinness World Record for largest amount of donated mobile phones for recycling. The competition, which will look to replace the existing record for highest number of mobiles collected at one location, will take place 15-18 April. The collaboration is part of the March to a Million programme being put on by Samsung Mobile.
Samsung Mobile, through the March to a Million programme, is looking to collect over a million old mobile phones for recycling by the end of this year. Sprint has a similar programme ‘Recycle for Victory’ that also aims to promote greater efforts in the mobile phone recycling sector. The event will take place at Samsung Mobile 500 at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas.
The March to a Million programme accepts all types of mobile phones. Recycle for Victory collects batteries, accessories, mobile phones, wireless phones, and data cards. All items are accepted regardless of their model, make or carrier. Sprint’s programme sees all proceeds donated to Victory Junction.
Victory Junction provides an overnight camp with a Nascar theme for children with chronic medical illnesses or terminal illness. The camp aims to provide a safe, structured environment where kids can participate in activities they otherwise would not be able to do.
NASCAR fans who donate their old mobile handset during the campaign at the Texas Motor Speedway will be entered into a prize draw to win a variety exclusive prizes. Winners will be revealed Sunday 18 April at the close of the campaign.
