Zonzoo launches services in Middle East

Zonzoo, a well-known mobile phone recycling firm, in an attempt to remain the fastest growing ‘green’ company in Europe, has launched its newest operations in the UAE. The 50/50 joint venture with Dubai-based Enviroserve will offer cash payments in exchange for used mobile phones.

Last year, Zonzoo had one of the highest mobile recycling rates in Europe at almost two million handsets saved from landfill. The company is set to match or exceed that figure with the latest regional addition in the Middle East. Zonzoo also has its hand in the market in the UK, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Austria and Portugal.

Zonzoo sells working, unwanted mobile phones in return for cash incentives. The phones are sold around the world, largely to developing companies. Phones that the mobile recycling company receives that are no longer in working order are processed for silver, gold, plastics, and other reusable materials.

The latest Zonzoo initiative will allow residents of the UAE to recycle their unwanted mobile handsets for cash with the benefit of helping the environment. Additionally, Zonzoo has said they will not only pay sellers the value of their phone, but the firm also plans to donate two per cent of the mobile handsets value to Senses and Gulf for Good, two local charities.

Zonzoo has begun to garner a reputation for its charitable business practices, and according to records has donated over €10m to charitable efforts. Customers in the UAE can log-on to Zonzoo’s website to arrange for cash payment in exchange for their old mobile phone.
