Full Circle Wireless Inc. has joined the team of recycling and mobile phone service providers partnering with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the second National Cell Phone Recycling Week.
The event, which began on 5 April, will see various schemes and programmes organised by several major cell phone service providers in an effort to promote mobile phone recycling. Some of the events will include mobile phone recycling drop-off points as well as cash incentives for recycling.
Full Circle, a leading US e-waste recycler as well as reseller of used mobile handsets, will help to spread awareness about the growing issues surrounding e-waste and the dangers of mass amounts of e-waste being sent to landfills.
The company operates by purchasing previously owned wireless devices and then recycles them using third parties. Shelton Basham, CEO of Full Circle, said that recycle such e-waste will help to protect to environment for coming generations. He added that the company was fully behind EPA’s efforts to educate the American public about the importance of, not only recycling in general, but also mobile phone recycling.
According to reports, Americans throw up to 350,000 wireless devices into rubbish bins everyday, and that the waste collecting in landfills is becoming toxic to the environment. In order to curb this epidemic, Full Circle Wireless has made a commitment to educate the public on the importance of recycling their mobile handsets and other wireless devices.
Basham added that according to the EPA, over 100 million cell phones around the US are no longer being used, yet have not been recycled properly. He continued, saying that even just getting one per cent of the American public to change their habits would be a huge contribution to e-waste management and protecting e-waste from ending up in landfills across the country.
