WRAP says UK households must recycle ink cartridges

New statistics revealing the amount of waste from food which families are not able to recycle has spurred on environmental groups to urge households to recycle used printer cartridges. It is hoped this will help salvage a somewhat green approach to household waste management.

Recycling body, WRAP, stated that the average households in the UK had a combined waste up to 8.3 billion tonnes of food per year. A figure which equals £12 billion. According to the recycling group, the average family of four could save an additional £50 if they wasted less food which had already been bought.

A local communications manager, Emma Marsh, stated that £50-a-month saved in food waste environmentally would equate to taking one out of every four cars off the road. She added that food thrown into the bins automatically gets sent to landfill where it sits producing methane.

If the forthcoming advice from WRAP is followed, the statistics say that up to 20 million tonnes of harmful CO2 emissions could be avoided. Since households continue to produce exorbitant amounts of food waste, the urgency for recycling such waste has increased exponentially.

Groups like WRAP are urging UK residents to begin recycling their used ink and toner cartridges instead of placing them in the rubbish bins to end up at landfills. The need to recycle such products is imperative if UK households are to diminish their carbon footprints in the long term.
