ACS International Schools Cobham, Hillingdon, and Egham increased their recycling efforts by 21% with the help of Tidy Planet’s Food Waste Solutions programme. The schools launched “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle” campaigns at each campus back in 2007 after it was revealed that 85% of the waste being generated by these institutions was being sent to landfills.
Now, just three years later all of these campuses have reduced their non-recyclable waste down to 59%, and hope to further achieve a target goal of 80% of all waste being recycled by 2012. However, in order to reach that goal, ACS Cobham decided to bring in outside help from Tidy Planet in the form of their Food Waste Solutions programme.
The Food Waste Solutions programme consists of participants using a specially formulated composting system called the A900 Rocket. The Rocket can compost up to 3,500 litres of any organic food waste each week, and the entire compost process is done in 14 days.
Managing director of Tidy Planet, Simon Webb states that the new innovative composting system allows users to create a quality compost product in a reasonable amount of time which will help increase waste recycling. Prior to the introduction of the composter at ASC International School Cobham food waste going to the landfill has been reduced significantly.
