Vodafone Qatar recently launched a new campaign aimed at mobile phone recycling within Qatar. The campaign will be featured at the phone company’s retail locations along with signs which offer 10% off new handsets when handing in an old mobile phone.
The mobile service operator has said that this is the first time this service has been offered in Qatar. But the service is a necessary step, according to the phone operator, since e-waste has been mounting across the country.
When e-waste such as mobile phones, batteries, and other electrical appliances are simply thrown out it causes dangerous toxins to build up at landfill sites which adversely affect the environment.
The intitiative will begin immediately and offer a 10% off voucher to participants who turn in an old mobile phone for recycling. The launch of the scheme, in conjunction with their business partner Aramex, coincides with Qatar Environment Day.
The process will be simple and participants will simply place their old mobile phone into a recycling container at any of the Qatar Vodafone retail locations and receive a 10% off voucher towards a new one. The programme is not a promotion and will continue indefinitely at all Vodafone locations.
