South Ayrshire Setting Scotland’s Recycling Curve

South Ayrshire is currently heading the movement which is sure to put Scotland in line for top recycling nation in the world. The city’s recycle figures, as revealed by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency, are showing that residents in South Ayrshire are way above average in their recycling habits.

Currently, South Ayrshire is holding the spot as the third biggest recycling centre in the country. Councillors in the city are praising its residents with the release of the figures. Councillor Peter Convery stated that it was exciting that the citizens of Scotland are appearing to be so committed to reducing waste through the use of recycling.

John Scott MSP responded to the news in a similar manner saying that from the time period between July and September 2009 recycling figures show that residents are recycling 47.3 percent of accumulated waste. He added that South Ayrshire is above the national average which sits at 39 percent at present.

The Scottish government has been recognized internationally for its role in recycling efforts across the globe. The government has an ambitious new plan to curb unused waste by recycling up to 40 percent in 2010.

Scotland has also announced an aggressive new waste reduction policy which will eventually see the country eliminate non-recycled waste all together. Mr. Scott adds that eventually the country will subsist on a zero waste policy which will see that all waste is either reused, reduced, or recovered to make other products. Methods will include composting, recycling, and energy recovery.
