In the aftermath of the UN Climate Change Summit, countries around the world are looking for ways to create less carbon emissions. The failure of the summit only reinforced the notion that any real change must start on the local level and not on the international stage. One of the ways that governments are trying to reduce carbon emissions is to push public transportation and new types of cars and scooters as viable options for commuting around the city. Some residents of the United Kingdom have found that using motorcycles, scooters, and electric cars can save them money and reduce their carbon footprint.
A recent announcement revealed that the Technology Strategy Board, which is backed by the United Kingdom government, will invest four and half million pounds as part of a new research and development project that looks to develop prototypes of a new electric car designed specifically for the city. The T.27 project will produce a sustainably built electric car. The project is led by a partnership between Zytec Automotive Ltd, Gordon Murray Design, and will get technical support from Michelin Plc, and Continental Corporation.
The goal of the project is to produce at least four prototypes of the new car, which will have three seats and be fully electric. The United Kingdom has recently reduced restrictions on where electric top off stations can be built, which should make things more convenient for those people driving electric vehicles. The technology for electric cars has long been available but countries must first change their infrastructure to accommodate the cars.
