Coolafone Looks to Increase Recycling Rates

One of the fastest growing segments of the recycling world is the recycling of mobile phones.  Mobile phone manufacturers have been pressured by governments to do more to entice customers to recycle their used phones.  With mobile phone technology constantly changing and upgrading literally hundreds of millions of phones are left unused in drawers around the world. Mobile phone recycling is important to keep these items from reaching landfills as well.  Mobile phone batteries often contain harmful chemicals that can leak into the soil of landfills and eventually make their way into drinking water.  Coolafone mobile phone recycling was recently launched in the United Kingdom and thus far has had very successful results.

Coolafone came up with the idea of making mobile phone recycling easier, which has positively affected the recycling rates for mobile phones in the United Kingdom.  Coolafone Live is an instantaneous mobile phone recycling service which can be found in most major shopping centres in Leeds, London, Reading, and Birmingham.  In just a few months since launching the program Coolafone Live has generated more than one hundred thousand pounds of revenue.  By 2012 Coolafone Live hopes to provide cash back for phones in the amount of ten million pounds.  The system works by offering customers instant prepaid gift cards that give customers money for their unwanted phones.

Unlike some services in which customers must mail their phone in, Coolafone Live allows them to get rid of the phone while they are shopping.  Coolafone hopes that by making mobile phone recycling convenient they can continue its growth.
