Belfast Zoo Launches Recycling Scheme

Over the last year, individuals and businesses in the United Kingdom have been looking for ways to get greener.  This has led to a number of new and innovative schemes being adopted by local councils who were put under pressure from the government to raise recycling rates and decrease waste.  The government has also reached out to businesses and organizations in an effort to make the green movement one which involves the entire community.  This has led to an increased number of recycling bins being places outside businesses as the UK hopes to entice citizens to recycle as they go, as studies have shown that people are far more likely to recycle if it is made easy for them.  The Belfast Zoo is also getting in on the action, by launching a scheme that they hope will promote greener and more sustainable lifestyles in the United Kingdom.

The Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle program was launched at the Belfast Zoo in an effort to raise recycling rates in Northern Ireland.  Customers can bring their glass and plastic to the zoo and leave it in their recycling bins, which are located in the zoo’s biggest car park.  By placing the bins in the car park the zoo hopes that people will recycle the rubbish that is in their cars, rubbish that often ends up being disposed of improperly.  People can also bring their unwanted items of clothing and leave them at the front desk.  The clothes will not be recycled but reused in various activities with chimps and gorillas.
