Recycling and Rubbish Collection Slowed by Weather

The winter weather has affected all types of services around the United Kingdom as many roads remain impassable because of heavy snows and freezing temperatures that have hit the entire nation.  Not only has transportation come to a standstill, which has caused a variety of cancellations of schools, work, and events, but trucks that use these roads to make delivery of items like food have been blocked leaving many stores with shortages of essential items.  Local councils are scrambling to try and return key services but the UK has been faced with a shortage of both grit and salt which has made clearing the roads a more difficult and time consuming process.  As the Met Office has announced that the weather could continue well into February there are likely to be more cancellations and reduction of certain services around the UK.

Lancaster City Council is one that has been unable to make scheduled rubbish and recycling collections due to severe weather that has left many roads impassable.  Although the last pick up was delayed the Council has assured residents that they will be making the next collection so anyone who was missed should leave their rubbish in its normal place for collection.  However, because of the increases demand for pickups garden waste collection will be delayed as trucks scramble to try and catch up on all of the rubbish collection that has backed up over the last few weeks.

The city has vowed to make as many collections as possible but has admitted that changes in the weather could cause further delays in service.
