Mandelson Lays out Plan for Growth

Both the Tories and Labour party are ramping up the rhetoric for the general elections which are now less than a year away.  While the Conservatives are pointing out all of the problems with the current government, Labour is trying to lay out plans for the future and what they will do if they are elected to another term.  This Conservative’s strategy was working at first, as the poor economy and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan allowed the Tories to build a double digit lead in the polls.  As the economy starts to bounce back and consumer confidence returns, the size of the Tory lead in the polls has dropped to single digits.  Business Secretary Lord Mandelson attempted to take advantage of the current momentum by laying out the plans that Labour has for future growth over the next few years.

One of the key issues of his speech was how the United Kingdom needed to boost its economy through green projects that take advantage of low carbon technology.  Mandelson went on to say that low carbon technology was definitely the future and one of the ways that the United Kingdom can get more competitive economically is to be at the forefront of this new technology.  The strategy which he is suggesting is called Going for Growth and it shows how the government has implemented a plan laid out in New Industry New Jobs in 2009.

The plan is for the government to support those businesses that are using new and innovative technology to promote financial growth.
