Forty Years of Recycling for Bolton Bros

A lot of things have changed about recycling in the last four decades.  The word itself has become a household term in that time as now nearly every person over the age of four is aware of what this word means.  Not only that but the education level of the public has increased dramatically when it comes to the environment.  Forty years ago only a small group of people even knew what recycling was and now nearly every home in the United Kingdom has multiple recycling bins and every member of the household knows how to use them.  All of this adds up to good news for the environment, as increased education and awareness can only help to raise recycling rates in the United Kingdom.  One thing that hasn’t changed in the last forty years is Bolton Bros Recycling which recently celebrated its fortieth year of serving the United Kingdom.

When Michael Bolton opened the doors on Bolton Bros in 1969 there is no way he could have predicted the massive amounts of changes that would occur in the recycling and waste management industry.  In that time Bolton Bros has worked hard to become one of the premier recyclers of paper and plastic in the East of England.  Although Michael Bolton is still the chairman of the company four decades after starting it, he leaves most of the day to day work to his sons and daughters, who hope to take the company forward in the future.

Bolton Bros started out handling metals and rags and didn’t make the switch to paper and cardboard until the 1980’s.
