Feces Powered Water Plant Saves Millions

In the search for green technology people may find themselves in some pretty unpleasant places.  This is because some of the best energy sources come from things that don’t usually come up in polite conversation.  One of the most valuable sources of energy actually comes from human waste, which through various methods, can be turned into energy.  This has led to some companies re-evaluating the way that they are doing business and looking for ways to get their hands on this ultra cheap and easy to find energy source, after all practically every human being is a walking electricity generator if their waste is thought about practically.  One company openly admits to using human waste as its primary source of energy and hopes that other businesses around the United Kingdom will follow their lead.

Thames Water, which is the biggest supplier of water in the United Kingdom, recently announced that it was able to save more than fifteen million pounds in 2009 by using human waste as a source of sustainable energy.  The company uses a variety of methods to transform human feces into heat, first by burning cakes of raw sewage, or by burning the methane gas produced when microscopic organisms break down the feces.  The waste is then passed along to farmers to be used for fertilizer after it has given up all of its energy.

Thames Water can proudly say that in 2008-2009 it made good use of one hundred percent of its sewage and sent none to landfill.  Although this may disgust some people, human feces could end up saving the world.
