Now that the New Year is here many people are looking around their homes and seeing the aftermath of another holiday. What were once festive decorations now just seem like glittery rubbish as people fill garbage cans and rubbish bins with the waste of another holiday. For most people this means bags full of rubbish sitting on their kerbside along with their tree which has been cast into the ditch in a manner unfitting to something that once brought so much joy. One council in the United Kingdom is looking for ways to get its residents to break holiday tradition by recycling their tree. Studies have shown that people are more likely to recycle if there is something in it for them. The Leicestershire County Council has launched some unique schemes which they hope will lead to more people recycling their trees.
Real trees are one hundred percent recyclable, which is a fact that many people are not aware of. After they are chipped and shredded, trees can be turned into valuable compost which can help improve soil quality. Leicestershire has offered a way for its residents to help their local woodlands by recycling their tree. The Council has coupled with a local charity Stepping Stones and will donate money to the charity for each tree that is recycled in the month of January. Stepping Stones is a charity which aims to create more green spaces around Leicestershire.
With more than a million trees purchased in the United Kingdom alone it has become a vital issue that those who do not replant them must recycle.
