Now that the Christmas season is over and people are starting to look around their homes they face the unenviable task of getting rid of all of the festive decorations. Some of these will be packed into a box and put away until next year, but when it comes to Christmas trees, it is not so easy. People who still use a real tree for Christmas generally get rid of it in the week following the holiday, so now is the time for them to get educated on exactly what they should do with this tree now that it is no longer needed. The best option of course would be to replant it, but this is usually not an option for most, so the council in Gloucestershire is offering its residents a second option for disposing of their Christmas tree.
The Gloucestershire Council is trying to remind its residents that Christmas trees, at least the real ones, are completely compostable and should be recycled rather than thrown away in landfills. Residents are encouraged to take their tree to one of the five household recycling centers in the county so that the tree will be disposed of properly. The trees will be processed at the center where they will be shredded and turned into compost that will be use to improve the soil around landfill sites in Gloucestershire. The council did encourage residents to chop up their tree as much as possible before bringing it to the center to ensure an efficient process.
