Kensington and Chelsea Encourage Tree Recycling

Every year as the holiday season approaches people all over the United Kingdom take part in holiday traditions.  One of the biggest traditions is that of the Christmas tree, families love to go choose a tree from the lot, and then put their presents beneath it on Christmas day.  Although the Christmas tree represents cherished childhood memories to some it can also be incredibly wasteful.  Not only does it take a tree from the environment, trees that are disposed of improperly can end up clogging up landfills and causing many problems.  That is why many local councils around the United Kingdom are offering ways for their residents to recycle their trees easily and without any additional cost.

Studies have shown that people are far more likely to take part in recycling if it is easy for them.  That is why residents of the Royal Borough have been offered free Christmas tree recycling this year.  The scheme was launched by the Chelsea and Kensington Councils as an effort to make sure that residents are disposing of their trees in proper ways.   In addition to kerbside recycling residents can also drop their trees off at many locations in the area.  The council was able to keep more than sixty tonnes of trees out of landfills last year and hopes that this year the number will be even higher as people are becoming more interested in environmental issues.

After the United Nations summit on climate change was declared a failure by most local councils will be increasingly more responsible to urge their residents to change.
