Donate Phone and Help Break Record

With the holiday season approaching there are soon to be a lot of state of the art gadgets sitting beneath Christmas trees.  The holiday season is the time to usher in the new and get rid of the old and many people apply this motto to their mobile phones.  Most people replace their mobile in less than two years making for a lot of dusty old phones sitting around in drawers all over the world.  One study estimated that there were more than ninety million phones in the United Kingdom alone, which when added up equals a lot of money and valuable materials that are not being collected.  Many of these phones end up in landfills or are just forgotten, but one charity shop in the United Kingdom is trying to change that.

The Scope charity shop is trying to set a world record by encouraging people to recycle their old mobile phones, especially at this time of year when many people will be getting new ones.  Scope, which is a charity that helps the disabled, has partnered with Redeem Plc in an effort to recycle as many phones as they can.  In fact, the team hopes to set the Guinness world record for recycling more phones in a week than anyone ever has.  Between January 8th and 15th people can drop off their phones at any Scope location.

Scope receives donation of cash for each phone that they get, but only if the phone is donated during this particular week.
