Brits falling Behind in Green Transport

The United Kingdom came under fire over the last year for its perceived failure to reach many of the recycling and waste management goals outlined by the European Union.  This prompted the government of the United Kingdom to put pressure on local councils to increase recycling programs and to find new and unique ways to increase recycling and decrease waste in the United Kingdom.  This has led to a miraculous turn around in recycling numbers, as the United Kingdom has went to one of the worst recyclers in Europe to one of the best.  Even though Brits have become good recyclers recent reports indicate that they are still lagging far behind when it comes to green transportation.

A recent study in the Europcar Observatory found that Britons are behind the rest of Europe when it comes to green transport.  While fifty four percent of the rest of Europe says that they have changed their driving habits to get greener, only forty five percent of Brits say the same thing.  The survey also found that only half of Brits said that they would consider switching to a car that used alternative fuel, while sixty five percent of their European counterparts said that they would be open to the switch.  Only around eighteen percent of Brits said that they had ever driven a car that uses alternative fuel while thirty percent of Europeans said that they had driven a car on alternative fuel.

There is some good news as it seems that people under thirty five are starting to get the message, as sixty percent said that they would give up their car and share rides with friends.
