Countries and regions around the world are trying to come up with new and innovative ways to become more sustainable. Business leaders have been at the forefront of the battle as they have been pressured by governments to find ways to get greener. As landfills reach capacity and new laws go into effect businesses are finding it easier and cheaper to comply with green laws rather than pay hefty fines for breaking them. Recently in Kuwait City Mohammad Omran, Etisalt’s Chairman, gave a speech at the eighth annual conference held by the Arab Thought Foundation. His talk laid out plans for how to use education to promote corporate responsibility in the Middle East, as well as how to use technology to achieve these goals.
In addition to a number of plans meant to bring the Middle East up to speed when it comes to education and technology, Omran offered plans for how to use green practices to stimulate business growth and to make sure corporations were doing their part at being sustainable and responsible members of the community. Omran highlighted some of the ways in which Etisalat is making corporate responsibility one of the main pillars of its philosophy and plans for growth. He highlighted the key initiatives that will be taking place in all of the major markets in which Etisalat plays a role.
One of those initiatives is to support sustainability by sponsoring programs aimed at recycling e-waste and mobile phones. Etisalat is the key sponsor for Envirophone, which has currently collected more than one hundred and fifty tonnes of waste.
