Environmental issues have been flooding the headlines as of late as the world waits for the results of the United Nations summit on climate change that is currently underway in Copenhagen. This has made the environment one of the biggest issues of the decade, as people become increasingly aware of the impact humans can have on the environment. Businesses have picked up on the trend and have started to offer their customers green alternatives to many of their products. Although some customers are interested in green services and products and will go out of their way to make purchases which are environmentally responsible. However, a recent study found that not all customers are concerned with the environment when making their choice of what to purchase.
The Business Travel & Meetings Show did a survey which aimed to discover the level of commitment that consumers have to green products. What the study found was that more than sixty percent of those surveyed did not have a green buying policy in place. In addition the survey found that more than a fifth of those asked said that green issues were not a priority for them when making purchases. One of the reasons given for this lack was the recession which has left many customers with few options when it comes to making purchases, they simply must choose the cheapest ones.
Only around twenty percent of those surveyed said that they had a green plan in place. This number will likely increase as consumer confidence returns, which will lead to more people spending the extra money on products that are friendly to the environment.
