Mobile phone recycling will likely be a big business soon as many people are realizing that it is an important environmental issue and one for which they can be paid. Under pressure from governments around the world mobile phone manufacturers have increased awareness about mobile phone recycling through a number of innovative schemes, some of which offer consumers money for their old phones. Studies have shown that people are far more likely to take part in a green activity if there is some incentive to do so. This incentive doesn’t always have to come in the form of money, as some people are more concerned with helping others with their donations.
Recently CeX launched a mobile phone trade-in and recycling scheme that can all be done directly on a mobile phone. The program takes advantage of a Wapple powered web service which allows customers to get a value on their phone, or browse the CeX website looking for a potential buyer or trading partner. CeX’s site allows customers to trade second hand electronic devices with other customers or to get cash value for their discarded headset, and all of this can be done directly from the mobile phone that they wish to sell or trade. CeX has been busy as of late as the holiday season approaches and more and more consumers decide to trade up to the most modern mobile phone.
Many mobile phone companies are taking advantage of similar schemes which aim to increase the recycling of mobile phone. Many parts from these phones can be re-used and those that can’t can often be recycled for their plastic.
