The issue of climate change has become one of the biggest issues of the last decade. One of the reasons this issue has become such a hot topic is that there is still widespread dispute about the causes and potential effects of global warming. Although most scientists now agree that climate change poses a real threat to the world, there is still dissent about what these effects will be and the timetable for them to take place. Usually the argument about climate change is about when, not if, things will go bad, and very few would argue that the effects were unrelated to human behavior. That is why a recent poll in the United Kingdom was so stunning, as it indicated that many people believe that human beings have nothing to do with the issue of global warming.
According to an ICM survey nearly half of all Brits believe that there is not any proof that climate change has anything to do with the behavior and activity of humans. This is a frightening revelation as most scientists have agreed for years that human carbon emissions are the number one reason behind climate change. The fact that nearly half of all Brits still don’t know this shows that there is still much to do be done in regards to the education of the public on this issue.
The poll discovered that nearly forty percent of those polled said that they did not believe humans were contributing to climate change, while seven percent said that they did not even think the world was getting any warmer.
