Recent studies have shown that a staggering number of Brits are still unaware that small electronic devices can be recycled. With the holiday season rapidly approaching this has become a major issue as now is the time when the most electronics will be purchases, thus leading to the old devices being thrown away. A survey from Recycle Now showed that more than a third of Brits still think that it is not possible to recycle all of the small electronic devices that they will be replacing when they do their Christmas shopping. Items like electric kettles, consoles, games, mobile phones, and power tools can now all be recycled, which is exactly what a Recycle Now hopes to accomplish.
More than eighty percent of Brits surveyed said that they would do more to recycle if they only knew how which led Recycle Now to partner with The Really Rubbish Orchestra and Hear Me Now! to promote awareness about the important issue of e-waste. The group plans to use a concert to raise both funds and awareness about the importance of properly disposing of small electronic devices. If people recycled their small electronic devices rather than throw them away more than one hundred thousand tonnes of waste could be kept from landfills, which is the equivalent of fourteen thousand double decker buses.
The study also showed that people over the age of thirty five were more likely to have recycled an electronic device and that men were around twenty percent more likely to recycle these items than women.
