Nokia Expands Mobile Phone Recycling in India

Mobile phone recycling has become one of the most important environmental issues.  Not only do mobile phones and other types of e-waste take up large amounts of space in landfills, and leak potentially harmful chemicals into drinking water, they can also be recycled to gather valuable parts that can be used in medical equipment.  Currently the world is not doing enough to recycle mobile phones as around eighty percent of used phones end up in drawers or cupboards or are disposed of in an improper way.  This is why governments around the world have put pressure on mobile phone manufacturers to do more to encourage their customers to recycle their used mobile phones.

One such company is Nokia, who has recently launched a campaign in India to help encourage one of the largest populations in the world to get more involved in the recycling of their mobile phones.  Not only has Nokia launched an ad campaign across some of the largest cities in India, but they have placed mobile phone recycling bins all over India to make it more convenient for people to recycle their phones.  Not only is India the second biggest market for Nokia but India people are far behind in their awareness of how to recycle, or in some cases, that recycling is even possible.

Nokia has offered many schemes to help promote awareness including vouchers for used mobile phones that can be used in popular stores, cash refunds, or take back programs that make donations to charitable foundations.
