British Households are Getting Greener

People around the United Kingdom are increasingly becoming more concerned about environmental issues for a number of reasons.  In addition to the dire predictions about climate change that have frightened many into action, others are finding that green behavior around their own house can actually save them a lot of money.  Minor changes made to a household can make a large difference on the bottom line, as studies have shown that green households can save hundreds of pounds per year on things like electricity and water just by making a few small changes in their lifestyle.  A wide variety of studies have been done recently to measure the difference tactics people are taking to make their house greener.

Part of a recent study by Understanding Society listed the green behaviors that are most popular among Brits, as well as the people who are more likely to partake in them.  The study found that people who owned their own home were much more likely to participate in environmentally friendly behavior, while renters were generally behind in things like recycling and energy use.  The study found that over eighty percent of homeowners said that they separated their rubbish for recycling while only about fifty nine percent of renters separate their garbage.

Further parts of the study showed that nearly sixty percent of Brits felt that there was an imminent threat presented by the effects of climate change.  The study also showed that Brits were most likely to take part in those activities which cost the least amount of money and effort.
