Groups Honored for work with Environment

Groups around the United Kingdom have been looking for new and innovative ways to increase awareness about environmental issues.  One way to do this is to honor those individuals and groups who are doing their part to help the environment.  The Social Enterprise awards are meant to honor groups who are active in social or environmental issues in the United Kingdom.  The winners of the England portion of the awards were recently announced at a reception held at Number 10 as part of Social Enterprise day.  After the regional winners are announced the public will be able to vote on what they feel is the best social enterprise in the United Kingdom.

There have already been regional finals all over the United Kingdom, including Wales, England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.  The awards are organized and run by the Social Enterprise Coalition and aim to reward those businesses which were set up with social issues or the environment in mind.  Prime Minister Gordon Brown spoke at the event and offered his congratulations to all of the winners.  He went on to talk about the importance of charity, NGOs, and community groups of continuing to be a large part of the environmental movement now and into the future.

The three winners which were honored at the ceremony were Global Ethics, Brighter Future Workshop Ltd, and Bikeworks, which won the award for best new social enterprise.  Citizens can go to the Social Enterprise Awards website to vote on the finalists from all four nations.
