UK Relaxes Electric Top off Rules

As the world prepares for the United Nations summit on climate change in Copenhagen next month new plans are being made for how to reduce emissions.  Countries all over the world are developing and implementing new and innovative schemes which aim to reduce the amount of carbon released into the environment.  Countries like the United Kingdom are making rapid and dramatic changes to their infrastructure in an effort to prepare for the changes that are soon to come.  Countries have been increasing the amounts of electric cars on the road, as well as the places in which they can be charged.  Even companies like McDonalds are getting in on the act.  The fast food king has recently installed electric car stations at some of their restaurants.

A recent ruling in the United Kingdom should make it easier for residents to use electric cars.  Planning rules, which once limited the number of electric recharging stations, have been relaxed as a way to encourage more people to buy and use electric cars.  Firms, homeowners, and councils used to be required to get permission before installing charging stations for electric cars in driveways, car parks, and parking garages.  Now they will be able to freely build electric stations where they please, which should make it easier to own an electric car, as well as encourage investment in infrastructure development.

Former regulations made it difficult for a person to install a charging station at their home, which discouraged many from buying electric cars.  The United Kingdom hopes that the new laws will increase electric cars as well as stimulate the economy.
