Biffa, a waste management company, has entered the Blackpool market in a new way. The company is introducing glass reprocessors that can sort bottles into different colours, a breakthrough in technology that could overcome previous stumbling blocks to recycling of glass bottles.
With this technology, glass bottles can now be collected using the same container and no longer need to be separated. This makes it easier for businesses such as pubs, clubs, and restaurants to use less containers and makes collection easier.
A spokesperson for Biffa stated that more than half a million tonnes of glass are dumped in the UK each year. “We’re having a push to stop this crazy situation,” said Dave Meehan, from Biffa.
In addition, a recent change in the law is affecting businesses in Blackpool. Businesses are now being required to pre-treat their waste prior to disposal. Incentive to recycle has greatly increased with the growing increases in landfill taxes.
“We’re making recycling easy and cost effective for companies who want to demonstrate to their customers that they are doing what they can to recycle more waste.”
