The Worlds Biggest Closet of Recycled Clothes

Nearly every industry in the world is looking for unique and innovative ways to become greener.  This includes the fashion industry, where stores and website promoting clothing recycling and reuse are popping up all over the world.  There have been projects using recycled clothing, such as a recent scheme in which schoolchildren used recycled clothing to make a quilt as a way of increasing awareness.  Other schemes encourage people to donate clothing that will then be resold, either for profit, or in some cases to donate to charitable causes like Children in Need or various cancer funds.  Bigwardrobe.com, which is the world’s largest recycling website, has been at the forefront of an industry which is rapidly growing.

The website features used clothing for sale in the three broad categories of men, women, and children.  The website likes to think of itself as a green e-bay, where customers can recycle clothing that might otherwise find its way into landfills.  Fashion magazines around the world from Vogue to Elle, as well as newspapers like the New York Times have praised the clothes swapping website as the future of environmentally conscious fashion.  A spokesperson for the site says that members in over one hundred countries have swapped or sold more than one hundred and twenty five thousand items since the website was first launched.

Big wardrobe hopes to continue to be a leader in the growing global phenomena of recycling clothing.  Clothing, as well as other items made of fabric, is often overlooked as an item that can be recycled.  As the demand for used clothes increases, these sites are expected to expand in the future.
