ReCellular Inc. are arguable the world leaders in collecting, reselling and recycling used wireless phones and their accessories. They have now announced that they are forming a partnership with Consumer Cellular, who are an Oregon based company, and one of the oldest mobile network operators. The aim of this newly formed partnership is to collect and recycle wireless handsets from their customers who are based throughout the country.

All proceeds that are collected through this partnership will directly benefit the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, which is the oldest full-service children’s hospital in Oregon.

Consumer Cellular customers will be able to mail their used, unwanted cell phones to ReCellular by using a unique pre-paid mailer. As well as using this system, consumers will also be able to drop off their phones at strategically placed drop off sites.

John Marick, President of Consumer Cellular said that “As one of the industry’s largest and oldest mobile virtual network operators, Consumer cellular is thrilled to have partnered with ReCellular to launch a customized cellular phone recycling program. From an environmental standpoint, we believe it is critical that our customers have an easy way to properly dispose of their old cellular phones.”

He went on to say that it was an easy process for their customers to drop off or mail their used phones, and that the proceeds would directly benefit children in need of medical attention.

Diminishing the environmental impact of our cell phones is now becoming the responsibility of both the consumer and the companies that manufacture and operate the networks. This partnership recognizes this responsibility, and its down to the consumer to help make this work.
