Climate change protestors and scientists around the world have warned about the potential dangers of global warming. Although there is widespread disagreement about the severity of the effects, most experts agree that changes are happening faster than originally predicted and that climate change will become a major issue sooner than expected. One of the biggest threats according to most experts is the potential of rising sea levels to wipe out many coastal cities due to the melting of the polar ice caps. Future maps paint a grim picture of a world mostly covered by water. With most of the human population living near coasts it is obvious that the threat of rising sea levels is one that human beings can no longer ignore.
In an effort to raise awareness about the threat of rising sea levels, an environmental group has put together an innovative advert meant to show people exactly what they can expect. The scene, which was created by climate protestors in Borth, a town in mid-Wales, depicts a family in their living room. The perfectly peaceful family scene is interrupted when the Irish Sea comes crashing through the window, eventually drowning the entire room. The room, which was complete with walls and furniture, slowly disappears as the tide comes in.
Local Borth residents put together the event to highlight the possibility that their city will no longer exist by the end of the century. Most of Borth is at or below sea level and the town already suffers from periodic flooding and stormy conditions that protestors warn will only get worse in the future.
