As the United Nations summit on climate change inches nearer, countries around the world are looking for new and innovative ways to reduce waste and carbon emissions. Although many are pessimistic that the meetings will produce a binding agreement, the summit still marks an important moment for the fight against climate change. One of the ways that governments are trying to reduce carbon emissions is to push public transportation and new types of cars and scooters as viable options for commuting around the city. Some residents of the United Kingdom have found that using motorcycles, scooters, and electric cars can save them money and reduce their carbon footprint.
A recent announcement revealed that the Technology Strategy Board, which is backed by the United Kingdom government, will invest four and half million pounds as part of a new research and development project that looks to develop prototypes of a new electric car designed specifically for the city. The T.27 project will produce a sustainably built electric car. The project is led by a partnership between Zytec Automotive Ltd, Gordon Murray Design, and will get technical support from Michelin Plc, and Continental Corporation.
The goal of the project is to produce at least four prototypes of the new car, which will have three seats and be fully electric. One of the biggest problems electric cars have had is the perception that they are unsafe for motorists. This project aims to overcome these concerns by shooting for a four star Euro NCAP rating, and being at the forefront of pedestrian safety.
