Bangladesh Most at Risk from Climate Change

Climate change is a major issue that will affect countries all over the world.  Recently activists, protesters, local councils, and governments have been stepping up their efforts to increase awareness about the potential dangers of global warming leading up to the United Nations summit on climate change in Copenhagen this December.  Although some pessimism surrounds the meeting, developing and third world nations are hoping that some kind of resolution can be made which will help them reduce the amount of carbon emissions and slow global warming.  Some leaders in the United Kingdom are calling for increased action on climate change to save the most at risk countries like Bangladesh.

Frank Dobson, the Labor MP of the UK and former health secretary, told UK’s parliament that worldwide action is necessary to slow climate change and save the most at risk countries like Bangladesh.  Dobson called Bangladesh one of the world’s more vulnerable countries and said that it would take long term climate change plans on a worldwide scale to save it.  Dobson made his statements during a five hour debate on climate change in the House of Commons last week.  He claimed that nothing less than a vast effort would get the job done.

Recent reports have quoted Environment Secretary Ed Miliband as saying that a binding resolution is unlikely to be agreed upon at the December summit in Copenhagen.  The debate has turned into a highly political one with countries like China and India refusing to enact new laws until western countries do the same.
