Orange Steps up Mobile Phone Recycling

One of the fastest growing segments of recycling is the recycling of mobile phones.  A recent study showed that there are as many as ninety million phones sitting in drawers across the United Kingdom.  Many of those polled were not sure how to recycle a mobile phone and some were even unaware that this was even an option.  As a way to increase awareness over the issue many businesses, local councils, and governments have stepped up their efforts to promote the recycling of mobile phones.  Since there are many valuable parts, as well as the fact that mobile phone batteries can cause a bevy of environmental problems, it has become imperative that people increase the recycling of mobile phones.

One company which is trying to do its part to boost mobile phone recycling is Orange, who has recently announced the launch of an electronic goods recycling plan, which offers to swap old laptops, mobile phones, and MP3 players for money.  The scheme, which is called Recycle and Reward, is available to anyone at all of Orange’s locations.  Recent studies have shown that one of the best ways to increase green behavior is to incentivize it by offering rewards.  People are far more likely to recycle their phones if they think that there is something in it for them.

Customers can take their old electronic devices to any Orange store where they will be immediately appraised and given a monetary value.  The customer will then receive a cheque by post within the next week for the value of their items.  Those devices which have no value can still be recycled at Orange free of charge.
