People around the world are looking for additional ways to do their part to reduce their carbon footprint and lead a greener lifestyle. Local councils in the United Kingdom have gotten involved with innovative ways to increase recycling and reduce waste, but ultimately the responsibility will lie with the individual. Increasing recycling, reducing food waste, properly disposal of batteries and mobile phones, and recycling clothing are just a few ways in which individuals can increase their contributions to greener lifestyles. Another way consumers can help the environment is to make decisions about purchases based on a company’s reputation. More and more customers are looking at a company’s environmental record before making their choice about which product or service to use.
A recent study by Samsung Electronics Europe found that companies and hotels which take green measures are more likely to attract customers and guests. Customers are increasingly expecting hotels and businesses to have strong green credentials before handing over their money. The survey polled five thousand citizens from around Europe and found that nearly thirty percent said that they would choose a known eco-friendly hotel if the option was offered. The survey found that customers want low flow toilets, energy conservation, and more efficient electronic devices in hotels. As more customers become environmentally friendly they expect hotels to do the same.
Samsung did the research as part of its green management initiative which set clear environmental goals for the company. Samsung hopes to become a leader in green technology by the year 2013, and is focused on low carbon economic growth.
