Climate Change will Kill Millions of Children

When it comes to global warming and climate change many people think the worst that can happen is that temperatures will rise and they might have to wear a little extra sunscreen and a wide hat. However, the reality may be far grimmer. Some scientists warn that the effects of rising seas could flood our lands and change weather patterns creating large storms that could eventually threaten our species. This may sound like the stuff of science fiction movies but evidence continues to emerge that supports the theory that climate change is real and that it is dangerous. In fact, it may just kill millions of children.

A recent study by Save the Children warned that climate change could have devastating effects on children and that as many as two hundred and fifty thousand could die next year because of climate change. The report, which is called Feel the Heat, claims that global warming is the biggest threat that humans currently face and one of the biggest threats in the history of humanity. By the year 2030 as many as four hundred thousand children per year could die from the effects of cyclones, floods, and droughts brought on by climate change. Potentially one hundred and seventy five million children could be dead by 2030; this number is three times the population of the United Kingdom.

The report was launched to garner the attention of world leaders leading up to the United Nations summit in Copenhagen which takes place in December. Save the Children hopes that leaders will put children first in the upcoming talks and put politics aside.
