Merton Council Adds Bins to Increase Recycling

One council in the United Kingdom is trying to do its part to encourage its residents to increase their recycling rates.  The London Borough of Merton already has top notch recycling facilities available to its residents and has also come up with some innovative ways to make recycling easier and more efficient.  The United Kingdom has come under scrutiny lately over its failure to meet many of the national goals set for recycling and waste management.  In addition, the European Union has outlined a set of directives for each of its member nations to reduce the size of their landfills incrementally over the next twenty years.

Insiders believe that the United Kingdom will fail to reach many of the EU’s objectives, which is why there has been national attention paid to local councils which have had success increasing recycling.  Merton is one such place where a few simple but innovative plans have raised the recycling rates.  In addition to pickup from the home, locals in Merton can also take advantage of on the go recycling in the twenty bins that the local council has set up all over Merton.  The bins will allow residents to recycle all of their products while they are on the go, making it easier and more convenient for residents to recycle.

It is believed that the bins will make it easier for people to recycle things like cartons.  Many people fail to recycle the rubbish that they create while in their cars, so the additional bins will make it easier to clean their car and recycle at the same time.
