Recently a group took action to raise awareness of the need to support political action to take on the issue of climate change. Around one hundred and fifty people turned up at Vazon on Saturday in support of the International Day of Climate Change. Protests and rallies have raged around the world leading up to the United Nations climate change summit in Copenhagen in December. High profile protests, like the one that took place on the rooftop of Parliament two weeks ago, have been popping up all over the world as activists try to garner the attention of politicians and let them know that people will no longer stand for inaction on climate change.
The group gathered on Vazon to take a high profile photograph that will be viewed by millions around the world. The group formed a circle around a message which was a large number 350 with an arrow pointing to the left. Organizers of the photograph say the 350 represents the parts per million of carbon dioxide which can be safely handled by the environment. The group says that they aim to let politicians know that the ordinary citizen demands action from their government.
The photograph will be displayed in Times Square in New York and hopes to raise awareness for the 350.org initiative. Organizers say that the food security of the world is at risk from droughts and other environmental changes that are threatening staple food crops. The group says it is important for westerners to show support for the parts of the world who will be left most vulnerable by the effects of climate change.
