Tetra Pak Partners with FSC

One of the newest trends in waste management and recycling is the idea of traceability.  Customers and businesses are increasingly interested about how their products are made and where they end up.  By being able to trace a product from production to trash is a way for businesses and individuals to ensure that they are not contributing an extra waste or carbon emissions to the environment.  Currently, the highest standard for traceability has been set by the Forest Stewardship Council, who will only endorse products which can be traced from forest to consumer.

In a recent announcement it was revealed that Tetra Pak cartons will now carry the Forest Stewardship Council label.  Over the next year juice, milk, and liquid foods that come in cartons will carry the FSC logo, which means that the entire life of the product can be traced.  This will include such major brand names as Ribena, Princes, Moo, Rubicon, Innocent, as well as many products which are sold under the retailers own label.  All of these products which are sold in Tetra Pak cartons will now keep a full chain of custody record so that they may certify the entire life of the product.

These types of products have increased dramatically in number as more and more companies feel pressure from consumers to trace their products.  The number of FSC certified containers has risen from two hundred million worldwide to over one and a half billion in the United Kingdom and Ireland alone.  Tetra Pak is a strong member of the WWF Climate Savers Programme and has kept on track to reach its carbon reduction goals for 2010.
