National Recycle Your Phone Week Launched

A week long campaign will soon begin, to educate Brits about how to recycle their used mobile phones.  Next week marks the beginning of National Recycled Your Phone Week in which citizens of the United Kingdom will be urged to do something positive with their unused handsets.

The event, which is in its second year, will not only encourage Brits to keep their phones from landfills, but will also educate them on the best and most rewarding ways to recycle their phones.  Many Britons are unsure of how to recycle their phones and some are even unaware that this is even a possibility.

With more than half of all Britons saying that they do not recycle their used mobile phones, National Recycle Your Phone Week aims to lower that number through education and incentives.  Many website have been launched in the past few years which offer money to customers in exchange for their old handsets.  A recent study showed that the five million plus phones that end up in landfills actually have a value of over one hundred and fifty million pounds, which means that Brits are literally throwing away money.

One of the reasons why there are so many excess phones is that people in the United Kingdom are constantly craving the newest technology.  The rise in popularity of smart phones like the iPhone means that people are constantly upgrading and throwing the old phone in a drawer or in a bin.  The United Kingdom has come under fire over recent weeks for its failure to reduce the size of its landfills as mandated by the EU.
