UK Turning Waste into Energy

The United Kingdom has recent committed to a wider European movement which aims to create more energy from waste.  More lucrative incentives have been offered in Britain to encourage individuals and big businesses to look for new ways to turn waste into energy and keep it out of landfills.  There has been a growing trend in Europe to use the energy from gasified and rotting waste and to move more towards biogas and the United Kingdom is becoming an ever growing part of this movement.

After the United Kingdom increases its support of biogas more farmers are trying to use crop waste to create electricity.  Big businesses have also gotten in on the act as many are trying to find innovative ways to turn industrial waste into energy.  Many believe that biogas is the future of energy and that it will eventually replace fossil fuels as the dominant form of power in the world.  In addition to heating homes and creating electricity, many believe that biogas will soon be used for transportation as well.

Some landfills in the United Kingdom have already been using methane created by rubbish to create power and most think that this trend will only grow in the upcoming years as the UK desperately tries to reduce the size of its landfills.  Countries like Germany, Sweden, and Spain are already using biogas in many ways and the United Kingdom hopes to emulate their success.

Currently the UK is one of the worst countries in Europe when it comes to putting rubbish into landfills.  Over half of the rubbish produced in the UK ends up in landfills.
