A recent campaign launched in the United Kingdom accuses UK water uses of being wasteful and encourages people to conserve as much water as possible. The campaign, which was launched by Defra, encourages Brits to take steps now to conserve water so that the water supply will still exist in the future. The campaign also claims that water conservation can slow climate change, save money, and protect the natural environment. Defra hopes that their water conservation campaign will help people in the United Kingdom reduce their water consumption by twenty liters a day.
Defra started the campaign by declaring that the United Kingdom was a nation of people who waste water. Recent studies back up this claim and show that the average household in the United Kingdom uses more than one hundred thousand liters of water per year. This averages out to be about one hundred and fifty liters per day used by every person in the United Kingdom. The Act on CO2 campaign hopes to educate people on everyday ways that they can reduce their water usage by twenty liters per day.
The campaign shows simple way in which Brits can reduce their use of water. Small things like turning off the tap while brushing teeth can save six liters of water per day. A one minute reduction in shower saves nine liters, not leaving the water running while washing dishes can save an astonishing six liters of water per minute. One of the biggest ways to save water is to use a bucket instead of a hose when washing a car. This can save an astounding sixteen liters of water per minute.
