One of the newest trends in mobile phones and online social networking sites is to use various applications to give people information, allow them to play games, make surveys, and download music directly to the phone. As smartphones like the iPhone become more and more popular, customers are increasingly relying on their mobile for valuable information which is always at their fingertips. So everything from leading a simulated mafia gang war, to posting directly to Twitter and Facebook can all be done from a mobile phone.
To take advantage of this trend T-mobile has offered an application to its customers which they hope will encourage recycling in the United Kingdom. The application, which they have named The Recycled Guide, will offer users information about the exact location and specifications of recycling centers around the United Kingdom. This means that customers can not only find out where the nearest recycling location is, but they can find out exactly what type of materials the center can handle. T-mobile hopes that the application will allow customers who are on the move in the UK a way to recycled even if they are away from home.
The United Kingdom has received some negative publicity over the last few weeks over its perceived failure to meet many of the EU’s recycling and waste management guidelines. T-mobile hopes that applications which allow customers to find the nearest recycling center will increase the amount of recycled materials in the UK and lessen the amount that gets sent to a landfill.
The application can be downloaded for free and works on most modern cell phones. To get the application customers can visit the T-mobile website or text RECYCLE to 80988.
