In an effort to launch its recycling plan in the United Kingdom, and to continue to remind people that recycling is important, Coke commissioned the construction of what some people are called the world’s largest piece of recycled art. Coke hired Robert Bradford to make a statue fifty meters high that is made entirely out of aluminum cans that were recycled. The sculpture was named “Precious Metal” and Coke hope that it acts as a reminder that recycling continues to be an important issue in the United Kingdom.
Coke started a recycling campaign in the United Kingdom as a way to educate the public on the importance of recycling and to outline the many benefits. It makes nearly twenty times the carbon footprint to make a new can out of aluminum than it takes to make one from recycled materials. It takes twenty times lest carbon dioxide to use recycled materials so people can reduce their carbon footprint significantly merely by recycling their cans.
The project that Bradford completed can only truly be enjoyed in full from the air, as it stands as the world’s largest piece of recycled artwork. The sculpture is a remake of a classic Coke advertisement from 1949, which has a woman in a bikini basking in the sun. It took Bradford and his team several weeks to complete the statue which was erected on the Sussex coastline.
The United Kingdom has been looking to get behind a variety of schemes in an effort to keep waste out of its landfills. The EU recently outlined strict rules for its member countries to reduce the size of their landfills over the next four years.
