Rubbish Spies Conduct Recycling Research

The Northamptonshire Waste Partnership recently launched a scheme which has raised eyebrows in local communities.  Reports started flooding in about men in hooded jackets who were seen sifting through rubbish bins late at night.  At first many residents thought that their trash was being stolen, as the men were dumping waste bins into large black bags.  It was later discovered that the men were just part of a scheme to monitor the types and quantities of waste which were being thrown out in the United Kingdom.

These mysterious bin thieves were actually just official researchers who were trying to determine what types of rubbish people are throwing away.  The men were part of a week long study which aimed to analyze waste.   The group which organized the study is a collaboration of eight local authorities and was commissioned by the Northamptonshire Waste Partnership.  However, some residents were not happy about this secretive mission, which they feel is an invasion of their privacy.

The NWP claimed that the study was innocent and only hoped to reveal more about what types of garbage people were throwing away.  They hope to use this information to improve waste and recycling facilities in the area.  Residents of Kettering,  Corby, and Wellingborough were still annoyed and suspicious, as many of the researchers were dressed in black and driving unmarked vehicles.

The County Council of Northamptonshire continued to defend the program saying that they were not trying to catch people who were illegally dumping waste, but were merely collecting data which would remain anonymous.
