David Cameron, UK Conservative Party Leader, visits Sims UK in Newport

Conservative Party leader David Cameron visited Newport, and the possible new site of Sims UK’s WEEE recycling facility.

Tom Bird, Sims UK’s managing director, met with Mr. Cameron and filled him in on the company’s plans to build .an £8m WEEE recycling facility at Newport. The new plant will have the capacity to process more than 100,000 tonnes of waste electronics each year. This will represent an advance of the present capacity of the site. Currently, the site processes 750,000 refrigerators each year and 250,000 end-of-life vehicles.
Mr Bird stated: “Mr Cameron showed great knowledge with regard to recycling and its importance in fighting climate change and easing the burden on landfill. He was also impressed and excited with the plans that Sims has, not just for this facility but for the future of recycling in the UK.
